All Seasons Fireplace was a sponsor at this year’s AIA Minnesota award presentation that took place on Friday, December 4, at the Minnesota History Center. We had lovely time talking to architects and engineers who change the face of the world we live in. Whether it is an affordable housing complex in Wisconsin, a baseball field in St. Paul or a craft brewery turned entertainment complex in Minneapolis, these creative professionals make a significant contribution to the built environment.
The AIA recognizes one firm biennially with the Firm Award. This award celebrates firms that have contributed to the advancement of the profession in the areas of technology, service and design. This year, the firm award went to BWBR, based in St Paul. We had a long conversation at dinner with Chris Fisher from BWBR about the joys and challenges of managing their large-scale institutional and commercial projects throughout the upper Midwest and Plains states regions. BWBR describes their staff and clients as being “mission-driven.” They serve non-profits, educational institutions, churches, health care providers, public agencies and innovative companies.
The awards presentation honored seven categories of architects: Affordable Housing, Special Awards, Young Architects, Louis Lundgren Award, 25 Year Award, Honor Awards and the Firm Award.
We were especially touched by the Trolley Quarter Flats project. This project inspires investment in community through the use of good design. Investment in affordable housing encourages good citizenship: generally, people who feel safe and secure value their environment and are usually better citizens. Good design is for everyone!
We were honored to participate in and sponsor this year’s program, and we will be happy to supply a fireplace or two for these grand spaces next year.
